Lately

I suspect that the reason I don't make blog entries like I should is that I may be a genuinely boring person. Lately, I however, I have tried to overcome inertia.

Here I am climbing a rubber rock formation on the first day of Spring Fling, 2008. In the second
picture, I am not.

Returning to the first, notice the height of my assent. That's about as high as I got. I think I was wearing the wrong clothes. At least that's my story and I'm sticking to it.

In this next picture, I am racing one of my pregnant students.

Don't I seem triumphant that I beat someone in a fair race?

This next picture is of some of the girls in the Psych Club. Our class decided to attend Spring Fling instead of class. I think it was a bonding experience almost as good as WPA.

Here are some of the guys of the Psych Club being guys.

In this picture, I am standing with two of my students that presented at the WPA Poster session in Irvine, CA.

That's it for this week.

My Irish Art

I tried to send these photos to Micah twice, but they were too big for email. So I decided to place them on my blog. This is not how I wanted my art to be presented to the world. In my mind's eye these three photos were both elegant and perfectly centered. That's life. The thing is that I created these pieces and they turned out fairly well.

I am looking anxiously for a critique from Micah. I value his opinion on my creations. Besides, he is the only person that I will let critique my work and I will still talk to him afterwards. I think my art is improving as a result. So let her rip, M. J.

Rough Sketch

Hi,

This is a sketch that I did of Sheena, David's fiance. It's a rough of what she may have looked like had she ever worn a tutu and wings as a preschooler. I thought Sheena might appreciate a copy of it. The real one will be kept in my journal for posterity.

It caused quite a stir in the family. I've done one of these for all my children and grandchildren, and tradition dictates that the caricature be of a toddler.

Well excuuuuuse me!

I did it because I felt the need for some bonding with her before the wedding--planned for sometime in October? I think it was pretty good considering the fact that I had never met her. So get over it!

The Score

I have done an evaluation of comments on my blog and am seeing a definate pattern. What it boils down to is this: People don't want to comment on holidays (Valentines Day and Christmas in particular), nor handcart pioneers nor any wierd gifts they may have received.

However, the comments seem to roll in when I include pictures of celebrities, namely Barney Fife and Darrel Issa. So what I'm going to do is turn in this semester's class census and write a report for the Social Science Dept. In the meantime, here's something you might want to look at:

Valentines Day '08

I hope you and your significant other are having a very nice Valentine's Day. Steve and I celebrated by opening our gifts from each other together over the phone. Steve gave me a beautiful mug I had been coveting.

I gave Steve a box of Cheerios. As you all know, nothing says loving more than something that is "heart smart." The inference of course is that I want him to live forever.

So what did you do for your significant other? And did he or she appreciate it?

Bedroom Redo

Here it is: what I did with "the big white box." The apartment managers said I couldn't paint the walls, so this is the best I could come up with. I was so sick of white walls, white bedding, and white vertical blinds that I could have screamed.

I added a green duvet cover and matching drapes. Notice that the closet wall has been covered in purple cloth which also matches the bed skirt and an accent stripe on the drapes.

By the way, the bedroom is also why I haven't updated my blog recently. I have been busy making furniture (the headboard and mirror frame), refinishing the nightstand, recovering the chair and footstool, sewing up the drapes, valence, duvet cover, and bedskirt, and creating original art for the walls.

This also explains why I haven't been grocery shopping in a while. But I have a four-day week-end coming so I'm thinking the pantry will be restocked in the near future.

Interests

Here is a montage of what I see as our families' interests. It represents family, getting a job, making a workable life, getting the degree, creativity, security, animal rights, ecology, music, and biking. I could have added more things, but I ran out of time before I ran out of issues.
